Inching toward the finish line

It's a bright, very cold, windy day in Portland today, and I've just learned that, no, that blue stuff in the porta-potty, whatever it is, isn't anti-freeze.

There's progress on the bathroom. Almost all the tile is in and grouted.

Photo courtesy of my niece. And her Converse.

Such a lovely lot of daylight pours in at the new window. Mentally erase the blue masking tape and brown paper, and substitute the beautiful white Bathtub of Resuscitation.

The grout is curing. I'm sealing the plaster today and doing a bit of touch-up painting. I bought some little bathroom acoutrements at Linens 'N' Things:

The bath bombs and soap from Lush are courtesy of the wonderful kispexi2. The cut edge of pebbles is where the bamboo floor will start.

What's left to do:
  • lay the bamboo flooring
  • install the toilet
  • mount a wall cabinet
  • install the sink, faucets and showerhead
  • stick the light fixtures and fan covers on
  • hook up the washer and dryer
  • get the gas turned on

Ed says it'll be done by Christmas. Everybody think positive, okay?

*is ded from the overwhelming beauty*

I'm feeling a powerful urge to light incense and chant worshipful prayers to your bathroom. It is of the awesome, and must be worshipped....daily....with rose petals. Seriously! You could charge admission to come view it. I'd pay!

Well git on up here and light some incense in person!

Only...seriously. Wait till this east wind dies down, because it's FUCKING FREEZING.

Actually, these photos taken in daylight tend to wash out the color quite a bit. In person, it's warmer and bit darker looking, but not matter how I messed with the photos, I couldn't quite capture it.

*crosses fingers*

Looks great so far!

Thanks! I wouldn't say I'm hopeful, exactly, about the Christmas deadline, but in any case, I'm staying at home now and suffering through the outhouse and the no-hot-water thing because, darn it, there's no place like home.

Speaking of which, are you still in smoky Greek bars? Or back home?

Still in Greece, thank you for asking. I was at Delphi today, which was great.

Oooh! Did the Oracle speak? Did you see the goddess with the breasts (or testicles) all over her front?

No, tragically. I hung around the rock of the Sibyl and then the temple of Athena looking in need of a dose of wisdom (*cough* as usual) but none seems to have arrived. I live in hope, however.

Re: the image you mention, I didn't see that. But the description reminds me of one that was found near the temple of Artemis in Ephesus. I did see a statue of Artemis made of gold (for her hair) and ivory (for her flesh) which was pretty trippy.

You wouldn't believe the stuff they do have in the museum in Delphi. Such as a life-size bull made of gold and silver, for example. Methinks the ancients smoked a lot of weed.

Ack! Ephesus--that was the one. Kinda like this.

I'm sure the ancients were completely whack. Not like us. :=)

Positive thoughts coming up.

It is lovely to see it ccoming together at last.

I think it's been a very good collaboration. My wild-ass ideas have caused him to have to learn a bunch of new stuff about his trade. He's quite proud of the result, I think, and I know that I am thrilled.
