10/30 The pink sofa is no more

Can you believe it? IKEA discontinued my pink couch and sold the very last one in the Pacific Northwest yesterday!

The website, which two days ago showed several pink couches in stock, today said the Portland store was sold out. So I rode out there to get some exercise and inquire in person about placing an order against the next shipment.

Unsurprisingly, hardly anyone ever bikes to IKEA

IKEA is famous for discontinuing stuff without notice, and I should have acted more promptly, but...well, I didn't. All my design schemes unraveled as the nice woman in the living-room furniture section confirmed the bad news. But wait, she said. We'll be getting an orange version of the same sofa in April...

So I spent the ride home conjuring up a whole new design involving the saturated orange she showed me a sample of. I think the disappearance of the pink couch might be fortuitous, because I'm liking this intense color better.

I am one of those people that hate orange with a passion, so I mourn the loss of the pink one! LOL

Re: Argh.
Yeah, orange is a funny one. I remember reading a fashion book in my youth (I believe its title was Elegance and I remember it being very authoritative in tone) which said that at no time in history had orange ever been, or would it ever be, an elegant color.

Hard to argue with that. However, since I started following Dressing Your Truth, I've discovered that pure orange really works for me. And it's wonderfully cheerful in this gray-green climate.

All that said, I really did like the pink, too, and would have happily had that couch for years.

I'm another who really hates orange. And I loved that pink! Can IKEA not locate a pink one for you from another store? Maybe you can find one on eBay?

The IKEA employee offered to check Seattle (the only other IKEA between Canada and San Francisco), but I didn't see how I'd get the sofa here if they had one. There's a point where delivery charges will add up to the higher price of a better sofa-bed at a fancier store.

When Seattle turned up nil, she said, "You know, the floor model just went down to As-Is yesterday. It might still be there."

For the whole duration of my dash down to the As-Is department I had fantasies of getting my pink couch for a significant discount. Would it be stained? Scuffed? Broken in some way? But the As-Is Department was a sea of neutral colors, no pink in sight. Gone! Already!

By the time I made it the quarter-mile back upstairs and across the store to Living Rooms, I had begun redesigning my decor, remembering how the very first picture I'd pinned on my Pinterest "Type 4 Home Decor" board had been an orange sofa, thinking that I'm tired of my current rug anyway, and wondering if this was all a reminder from the universe about being flexible and in the moment.

So I flexed and flowed. And then I came home and ordered an orange rug. And now I'm more of an orange person than a pink person!

I hope the loss of the pink sofa option or the acquisition of the orange rug wasn't too much for you! I've been enjoying your posts...
