Power and light

My electricity went out this morning as I was poised in front of my bathroom mirror with a makeup brush in hand. My phone was running on fumes--just enough juice for me to call the power company and learn that yes, I and twelve-thousand of my neighbors were in the same windy, wet, powerless boat.

It was not a bad representation of my state of mind, actually. Wild, uncertain, low on clarity and power, and lacking a sufficient mask to face the world. The notion that the universe was reflecting my reality was so charming that I cheered right up. The wind died down immediately.

I plugged my phone into my handy-dandy cheapo external charger (thankfully there was some reserve energy), stuffed my makeup into my purse, and got myself to work where the power never goes off. Electricity at home, according to the internet, was restored a couple of hours later.

I'm intrigued by this: "my handy-dandy cheapo external charger (thankfully there was some reserve energy)". What "reserve energy"? Wouldn't it be great if you could use a dynamo attached to your bike to charge your phone as you ride to and from work? (I had one for my bike lights; I could definitely feel it when I climbed hills.)

Why were you feeling"Wild, uncertain, low on clarity and power"? or is that how you always feel first thing in the morning...

I was an early adopter of the BioLogic ReeCharge. My bike has a built-in generator hub on the front wheel--runs the lights and can handle an additional trickle of output to a battery pack (which is what the ReeCharge is).

The ReeCharge I have is no longer being supported, and I've lost some parts. Looks like BioLogic has come up with a sleeker edition now, which I'd definitely consider if it weren't iPhone-specific.

So instead, I have a $12 external charger that does well in a pinch, though it does have to be charged from the house mains itself.

Some days I just wake up crazy, you know?
