Pretty pretty lights

The kitchen soffit project is more or less done. I about killed my hands doing it--lots of awkward drilling and gripping and twisting and lifting of parts. (There have been two days of high-dose ibuprofen and some serious tapping on ideas like "losing my grip" and "hanging on for dear life"--but that's a story for another time.)

The problem I was trying to solve was this:
Soffit before.jpg
A mess of bad sheetrock and the torn-up remains of old cabinets that went to the ceiling. I did NOT want to get into expensive major work. I did that in my bathroom and the price tag ended up being staggering. This was all about the cheap cover-up.

There was a lot of careful measuring and some lovely plywood to prime, drill, and paint.

Then came mounting the painted support boards to the unmanageable wall surface. You see coupling hardware affixed with some big bolts. There was countersinking! It was all very macho.

And then, assemblage, with LEDs and frosted plexiglass, and some rather big carriage bolts to make the plexiglass sort of float out in front.

And finally, in the dark (which we've got an awful lot of this time of year), instant bokeh! It's kind of an awesome night light, really.
