Restraint 38/42

Title: Restraint Chapter 38/42
Author: DarkEmeralds
Artwork post: The inestimable Owzers
Genre: J2 AU - Historical (Regency)
Rating: Adult
Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction peopled with fictional characters. It was written within the gift culture of fandom, where no money changes hands. No infringement, invasion of privacy, or assertion about any real people is intended.
Warnings: None for this chapter. Chapter 1 contains references to offstage teacher-pupil sexual abuse and adult-minor sexual contact.
A/N: Part IV is winding down as the saga surpasses 200,000 words and the relationship matures. Without the amazing [profile] kispexi2, whose beta skills are surpassed only by her patience with me, this story would not exist.

Summary: Tristan watched John come back into himself day by day, noting an increasing warmth in John's eyes, and a growing willingness in his gestures. When, a week or so after their arrival at Les Poiriers, John climbed into Tristan's bed and said, "Do not go back to sleep," Tristan knew that he was well and truly on the mend.

I did tweet. At least, I think I did. *checks* Yup, but the timing was bad--very late last night.

Anyway, there you go. Chapter 38!

I don't know if you've explained this already and I just didn't see it because I decided to wait until the story was done to read it, but why are you using the names Tristan and John?

Because Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles would be out of place and anachronistic in the period of the story. Tristan (Jared's middle name) Jarrett and John (pretty close to Jensen) Acklebury were the versions I felt I could live with for two upper class Englishmen born in the late 1700s.

Ah! Okay. That makes sense. :-) I honestly didn't realize that you were trying to get things as accurate as possible. That's cool. I kept getting confused by the John thing because then I'd think oh, John Winchester, but then this is RPS, so then I'd get confused again. Hee. Never mind me!

You wouldn't be the first person to feel a little confused by it. More than one Delicious bookmark or other review type thing has suggested doing a search-and-replace on the "ridiculous" names.

But yeah, some degree of historical accuracy has been super important to me, and it seems to be an aspect of the story that a lot of people have appreciated.

I hope you'll give it a look when it's done. Or a listen--the podfic is AWESOME.

Ridiculous!? That's harsh. I would have just said confusing. But whatever, people are weird.

I am strangely resistant to podfics. Well, at first because I was on an ancient computer and dial-up, but that is no longer the case. I'll have to dip my toe in sometime and listen to one, won't I? I think part of it is that I don't know what to do when listening to one. Just sit? Hee. I don't have an mp3 player, so I wouldn't be able to listen in the car or at school or when I'm cleaning, unless I was in the same room with my computer. I don't know.

I swear I'm not trying to be contrary!

Oh, I'd NEVER listen to podfic if I were tethered to a location. I listen while I'm doing other things--notably riding my bike (one ear only--safety first :D) and cleaning my house. Also riding the bus.

Podfic (and professional audiobooks) have been the instrument of both increased exercise and a cleaner house--I will seriously go looking for dishes to wash, laundry to fold, or bike errands to run if I've got a good story going.

If you can acquire an MP3 player of some kind, the beauty of podfic is that it's free, and the best of it is every bit as good as the pricey audiobooks from publishers, plus, more porn.

I may be able to afford a cheap one this winter or spring and if that happens? I will certainly give them a try.
