Procyon Lotor

'Bout 1:30 a.m. last night I went out to get my sheets off the clothesline so I could make my bed and proceed to lie in it. There was a visitor.

He was so unperturbed by my presence that he didn't even back away slightly when I started taking pictures of him.

Raccoon eating catfood with its hands

Graydie was whining at him. Dean was nowhere to be seen.

They are really attractive creatures, but you don't want them getting too cozy around your house. It cost me about $16,000 to permanently evict a group of them from living in the roof of my porch a few years ago, because the whole porch had to be rebuilt.

I haven't figured out how to feed poor Dean the stray cat (who won't come indoors) without simultaneously feeding the raccoons.

You're like the person in Shylock's hypothetical about paying ten thousand ducats to abate a rat!

Rocky Raccoon!

Once we had a baby raccoon in our backyard and it was playing with apples that had fallen off the tree. I was smitten.

They really are cute critters. But mean as only urban wild animals can be.
