Chapter 31 is in beta

I don't even want to LOOK at the clock, but I just submitted the never-ending Chapter 31 to [personal profile] kis the Wonder Beta for her eagle-eyed review.

*flops bonelessly into bed*

I expect to post this long-overdue chapter within a few days, depending on [personal profile] kis's schedule.

For your future waiting pleasure:

Chapter 32 is in the works
Chapter 33, upon which Part III ends, is complete.
Chapter 34, upon which Part IV commences, is in final draft.
Chapter 35 is about half done.
Chapter XX (40? ish?--the final chapter) is substantially complete.
Epilogue is complete.

So I hope to avoid any future l-o-o-o-o-ng hiatuses, though I'm eying that gap between 35 and 40 a little dubiously because right now the only thing bridging it are some isolated scenes. But I'm confident.

Those readers who've been waiting so patiently, thank you!

It's reserved for happy occasions such as this :))

\o/ I am so excited for this... I'll be waiting for the podfic installment, which means waiting until it's all finished...

But yay! Can not wait. :D :D
May. 24th, 2010 03:28 pm (UTC)
I'm with you in waiting for the podfic, but I have an idea that Bangkok burning (and other overly-thrilling aspects of Fayjay's life these days) may be more of an impediment than my slow writing.

Part III is fully recorded and edited through chapter 30, so getting 31-33 done shouldn't be a huge push for her when she does have the free time and space. She'll post part III when it's done, and then on to Part IV and the finish line.

Ack! You've published chapter 31? Ack Ack Ack! Well, I'd uploaded all the sections up to the end of chapter 30 to Cybel to hold onto while I waited for Chapter 31, with a view to uploading the whole of Part III together - happily our Exciting Civil Unrest seems to have calmed down (we still have a nightly curfew in place, but it's only midnight to 4am now, rather than the 8pm - 6am we had initially) and I've returned to my apartment, and we're back at work. BUT... my bloody laptop has expired. Insh'allah I'll be able to save the stuff from the hard drive and will likely just buy another laptop, rather than try getting this one fixed - it's had a pretty good innings, I think, and I'm up for getting a new one. But that probably won't be until Siam Paragon finally reopens - that's where my MacShop is. (And my One True Bookshop - God, First World Woes, I know, when people have been shot on the street, and when we were freaking out about snipers a week ago - still, I pine for my bookshop.)

Still - YAY! Delighted to hear that there's more done - perhaps I should get Cybel to upload what she's got at the moment, and record & upload chapter 31 when I get the chance in the next few weeks? What do you reckon?

(Why yes, I am typing this from work.)

eta: reading skills fail! Ack! Sorry - right, will stop panicking. (And Part III ends on Chapter 33? Cool beans. Looking forward to it!)

Oh, I'm so glad to hear that things are settling down a bit. But broken computer--ack! Such a dire feeling.

There are two more chapters to go until the end of Part III, so it'll be at least three weeks before that section is wrapped on the writing side. Let me know if you need me to re-send any of the "suggested music" or anything.

Mostly, though, take care and get re-settled and soothe the poor Cat Daniel.

Oh, wow, I was just thinking of this yesterday and wondering what was up!

Looking forward to it, patiently!

Thank you for your patience. I hope it feels rewarded by Chapter 31.

Great news for your readers! And yay for you!

Re: looking forward to it
It's a tremendous relief. Now I can move forward.

You seem like such a modest and unassuming person for someone taking on an Austenian AU like this. No "thanks to all the little people" stuff!

But I'm glad you're like that. Just wished I lived closer to Portland and we cld meet up for coffee sometime.

The internet has the curious effect of bringing very disparate people together, and then sometimes strangely emphasizing the geographical distance between them.

Hee! I don't think "modest and unassuming" is a phrase that's ever been applied to me. It's true that I'm introverted and reserved, but if you tried to locate me by saying to anyone who knows me in person, "You know, that modest, unassuming woman," they'd never, ever guess you meant me.
May. 24th, 2010 08:26 pm (UTC)
Well, you are modest about your writing. But you must have a lot of inner strength to take on such a huge project.

I live in Ottawa, Ontario, and I've only been to Portland once. Loved it, though.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been silently stalking you (sorry if that sounds creepy, but I really am obsessed with your fantastic story), and I'm so glad to hear a new install is on the way.
May. 25th, 2010 05:18 am (UTC)
Hee! It's not creepy when it's that flattering!

New chapter tomorrow. At last!
May. 25th, 2010 05:14 am (UTC)
I don't mind waiting. Go you!

Chapter 31 is going up tomorrow. My beta is the best beta on the whole internet! \o/

A beloved Beta is priceless. :)

I see it is up, saw the chapter title, & now I'm biting nails, thinking it might be what I think it is...

Going to read...

Hi! So a friend of mine brought your story to my attention a few days ago. At the time, she was under the impression that the story was complete and, as I am a LOATHE to read works in progress, I was thrilled to take a look and start reading. Of course, I fell in love with your characters and writing and WORLD and, after completing the prologue, discovered you had only posted 31 chapters.

I whimpered a little and resolved that I would just read very, very slowly in the hopes that you would update before I would get entirely caught up.

Except now it is SUNDAY, only a few days since I was first made aware of the story, and I am completely caught up because I could absolutely not stop reading. I am in love with every piece of this story and I anxiously ANXIOUSLY await more. My heart is already aching for these characters and I'm simply astounded by your talent. I'm honestly frequently amazed by the quality of writing in this fandom, but it's rare that I find something so jaw-droppingly AMAZING as this one. I feel like I should be paying for this, no lie.

(I hope this doesn't come off as creepy and stalkery, but I really had to tell you how much I love this story.)

It's funny you should stop by just now, because I was about to post that chapter 32 is almost done, and that I'm really excited about it.

Thank you for your lovely comment. I've been kind of astounded at the reception this story has had: though I thought I was writing something pretty good, I was also resigned to its having a limited audience, being as AU as it is, as LONG as it is, and as old-fashioned in terms of language. So I'm thrilled that you've happened on it and are enjoying it, and I assure you that though it's still in progress, it's very much underway, plotted out to the end, and moving forward quickly.

I post updates in padacklesrps, j2au, jsquared_rps, emeraldsedai (i.e., here), on my Dreamwidth journal and on Twitter.

Heh. I guess I want the word to get out there, huh?
Jun. 7th, 2010 04:11 pm (UTC)
OH YAY! This pleases me ENORMOUSLY. \o/

Honestly, it's a lot more AU than I typically go for, but you have a wonderful way of balancing their personalities in a very IC kind of way (or, IC as far as I see it anyway since characterization in RPS is generally fairly fluid, I think) while staying wonderfully true to the setting and environment and WORLD. I'm just in complete awe. I'm actually oddly torn on whether I want it ending at ALL I'm that much in love with it.
