A shift in operations

As of today, I'm moving primary operations over to Dreamwidth, where you can find me as DarkEmeralds.

My reasons for making the switch aren't primarily political or in protest against anything LiveJournal-ish, but between careless management, willing kowtowing to "moralistic" forces, and the static character of development here, I find that I just like Dreamwidth better.

The atmosphere on DW is friendly (I have seen pictures of the people who made it and run it), they have a strong commitment to open content and open source, they communicate clearly and regularly with their users, and boy do they respond to ideas, suggestions, and break/fixes. I like their robust privacy, locking, and filtering features and their ever-growing layouts. More technical than that, I can't yet be, but it just feels better over there.

I'll probably continue to post articles on LiveJournal that are tagged Riding Clyde, Project Empty, and Wheatlessness, three projects with readers outside my friendslist. I will definitely continue to read my flist here on LJ, though if you post routinely in both places, I'll read you on DW and defriend you here (let me know).

Are you not crossposting everything, then?

Up until yesterday, I was. Now I'll be crossposting selectively, probably my more public posts--which, for me, excludes fandom, among other topics.

Will you still alert us to updates to your fic here?
May. 7th, 2010 04:33 pm (UTC)
Yes, I expect I will.

One of those alerts is coming up. I know I keep saying that, but it is! Chapter 31 is almost done.

Sadness :-( I just don't have time to keep up both places

Dang. I have an account over there, but I'm never there. Like Malanai, I cannot manage to keep up in both places. I was enjoying getting to know you.
*iz sad*

I'm looking into some kind of feed arrangement. Not that I think my every utterance is so precious, but several people have expressed interest in keeping up with my journal, and it's not my intention to sever ties or make a statement--I'd like to be available.

For what it's worth, I'm noticing quite a lot of migration over to DW, and more and more activity there, so maybe you'll find yourself moving over too one day!

I'm not reading over there yet, so I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with what you cross post. Thanks for the heads up!

The beauty of your situation is that I'll probably only post my more or less interesting stuff on LJ! :D

:( Although I understand your reasons. I will try to pop over to DW regularly to read.

I'm really watching their development of the feature that lets you read your LJ f-list on DW, which would be a big help in getting me over there more often. I only know a few people who made the leap to DW, and you're only one of 2 that post regularly (or who post something I want to read :) -- everyone else is still here on LJ, unfortunately.

But I love DW, and I love reading your LJ, so I'll be reading you both places. :)

They crank out new features on DW regularly--and they're features that people actually ask for and want. Crossposting, feeds, and greater transparency across platforms are all big on the list.

I expect I'll keep crossposting certain things, at least till my paid LJ account expires in September.
