So, so close!

The dreadfully early training week begins tomorrow at 5:00 a.m. when I have to get up in order to be at my desk and technologically ready to consume virtual classroom training by 6:15. I'm therefore about to swallow a couple of valerian root capsules and send myself off to a concomitantly early sleep.

But first, some Restraint news. Chapter 31, of the nearly unending writer's block, is almost done! I expect to send it off for beta by Tuesday at the latest, and as my wonderful beta reader, [personal profile] kis, is not only brilliant but fast, I think I'll have the chapter posted on the AO3 by Friday night.

(Meanwhile, I did post a new deleted scene from Chapter 27. More Charlotte!)

It's been hard to find the thing, the crux, the heart of the matter in Chapter 31, mostly because I wasn't trusting my own instincts. But I found it at last (last night--it was, of course, there all along) and am scraping everything else away, and writing in the necessary supports, and it's all very exciting.

Please spread the word if you can. The comms where I post new chapter announcements aren't meant for this kind of update, and I have an idea that a very high proportion of the almost 10,000 hits Restraint has on the AO3 have come from the frequent page-refreshing of a handful of eager readers who are in the dark as to why chapter 31 has been so long in coming.

And now to dope myself into a ridiculously early sleep.

Oh my!! I HAVE to pop in to let you know how my I AM LOVING listening to Restraint. I adore it in every way possible. I am now up to Part 2, chapter 14. Considering I have never read a historical romance in my life I'm amazed how attached I have become to it. The language is mesmerising and beautiful and the characters are so fantastically drawn that I can see them so clearly and have absolutely fallen in love with them. The writing is stunning. As is the reading.

My god! The UST is driving me insane! In an absolutely wonderful way of course. I will comment properly to the fic... at AO3 (??) when I am caught up. But I just had to come by and let you know. I can't gush enough!

That is fantastic to hear. I'll be sure to point Fayjay to this comment, too, because I couldn't agree more that her reading of my story really brings it fully to life. I thought of podficcing it myself, but I simply don't have the accent for it. She reads it just the way I hear it in my head as I'm writing, and it's been a huge thrill to me to listen to what she's posted so far, and I can hardly wait for Part III (which she says she'll finish up and post as soon as I finish posting the last couple of Part III chapters).

The thing that strikes me about her reading is how much love she pours into it. I've just finished listening to the scene when John prays and I swear to god the emotion was just oozing off the page into my ears. You can tell she loves the story and the characters and in turn makes the listener do so to. (I wonder if she acts??)

But it's the writing honey...*happy sigh* Just brilliant.

::waves sheepishly::

Hey there! Fay here - yes, it's a bloody marvellous story, isn't it? I've not been so smitten by a piece of fanfiction in years and years.

I'm delighted you're enjoying the podfic! &hearts

In answer to your question, yes, I do act - not professionally or anything, but I do love acting. I tend to mostly get cast in comical roles on stage, though; it is FABULOUS to be able to play such a wide array of different characters in so many different emotional states via this medium. SO MUCH FUN!

Oh hi!

I'm so glad you saw this. I am indeed LOVING the podfic. I am in complete admiration for the way you are reading it. I figured you might act because of the way you interpret and deliver the dialogue. (ooh and all the great accents!) (and um.. me too. I love acting as well *g*).

I particularly loved the way you delivered John's anguish at Penrith being shot. I can't imagine that would have been too easy. <33

But it's ALL fabulous.

Thanks for taking the time to record it. I've been wanting to read the fic but can never really find the time to sit down and read it.

I hope you sleep well, and that you are getting to feel better! Wish you lots of luck on the training week ahead.

And YAY for Restraint news. I'll be checking your new deleted scene. heh. I really enjoyed the Charlotte chapter.

I find your description of your writing process fascinating. Thank you for sharing that. Funny, how the crux of the matter has always been there, and you're coming to where it needs to be through a bit of sifting. And I love hearing you're in an exciting rush. Love being in that state, myself. It's one of the joys of the whole process.

I've been contemplating where your story might go, and it'll be interesting to see if I have any hits among the misses, so to speak. And I'm still wondering about the spoiler teaser you put up a few days ago, like as in, how the heck did he get THERE? lol. I have a few ideas, and dang me, they're bad! (That's because I tend to do bad things to my own characters, and so my mind has automatically gone there.) *sighs and hopes for the best* Hope my vague reference does not qualify as spoiling to other readers...

I'm still re-reading, but taking it very slow. Still enjoying it better than the first time through, when I was in such a hurry to find out what happens next. ;)

I've mentioned your story once in my journal, after I found & read Restraint the first time, and just before I added you. And I will mention it again once you're done.

Here's to a great week!
