Alive, alive-o

This idea of not writing for a few days is genius! Thank you to everyone who suggested it.

In honor of Eleanor's--or maybe Odette's--first ride to work, I wore a skirt and high heels this morning, and felt like a million bucks cruising along in the chilly sunshine.

Another reason for dressing up was lunch at my favorite nice restaurant with two of my favorite people, including the friend whose spouse died suddenly in December. I haven't seen him since before the sad event, and it was his idea to schedule the lunch today, so it was great to see that he was wanting to get out and connect with people. He spoke a bit about the difficulties he's having, but it was a great, positive conversation and he appears to be doing really well, all things considered.

We ate French food (I had mussels!), and I splurged on a mojito because I'm such a rebel, and a flourless chocolate cake thing for dessert that was out of this world, and it was a lovely occasion.

Amazingly, I had a productive afternoon at work after all that! I left the office around 6:00 and ran into a bike rally--Bike to Blazers, working to get more good bike parking at the arena.

Bike boys
Bike boys. They liked my new bike!

I squeezed past the crowd and beat them over the bridge (my ride home takes me right past the arena, and it's a bit crazy there on game and concert nights), then swung by my mom's to introduce her to Odette--or Eleanor--before stopping for some leaves and roots at Whole Foods. There, as I was locking my bike up, an extremely good looking young guy said, "Hey, nice ride!"

Eleanor/Odette FTW!

I came home and baked some gluten-free peanut-butter-chocolate-chip cookies featuring agave instead of cane sugar, and they're promising. I wouldn't be ashamed to test them on non-GF friends, and in fact I might take them to work tomorrow.

So my mind is clearing, and Chapter 31 is brewing in the background. I can feel it! And meanwhile this not-writing is doing me a world of good.

Might I ask at which French restaurant you ate? Always looking for new good food options (there are so many in Portland!) :)

I couldn't figure out how to vote in the poll, but I like both names. Very dignified.

Sorry about that!

I settled on Eleanor O. It seems to be sticking.
