In common with everyone on my flist and in my circle, I want to be respectful of the catastrophe in Haiti and the Haitian people's suffering. I have nothing of value to offer here and have given what I have to give to the Northwest Medical Teams, who are by all accounts a stellar and effective on-the-ground relief organization.

On a much more positive note, I want to express my heartfelt congratulations to kernelm who in just the last couple of hours got himself hitched, and has evidently, in the old-fashioned way, been made the happiest of men by virtualinsomnia. At least two of my flist are at the wedding, and as these folks are part of my fandom roots from the early Firefly days, I'm happy and excited for them all.

Sam and Clyde:
Sam & Clyde

(You notice that Sam is less of a stray cat these days, and more of a, you know, cat who hangs out inside my house.)

Sam is not one bit vain.

Wow! What a beautiful kitty!

He really is. I can't imagine someone abandoning him, but that's what seems to have happened. Now he eats at my house. His twin brother Dean must have encountered some worse treatment, because he's almost entirely feral.

But they hang out together, and both come to eat on my porch. I'm thinking of getting a little shelter-igloo thing for Dean, and calling it the Impala.

Bless him. He's too floofy to be living rough. I'm glad you can look after his brother too.

I've had to snip several mats out of his neck-ruff. He and Dean have all the signs of being breed Maine coons, or one generation removed from that sort of pedigree, and as with all "designer animals," they're better suited to looking pretty for human eyes than to surviving in the streets.

They're quite good in the cold, though. Still, it breaks my heart that Dean won't come inside.

As if he'd let me. He'll allow me to pet him now if I approach slowly and respectfully. He'll still bite my hand off if I do anything that strikes him funny. So no. His grooming is up to him.

That cat is so cute.

I'm sorry about his poor brother. I don't like to think what happened to the unfortunate beast, to make him so shy of human contact. But you never know, he may get over it in future, and at least you're minding them both.

Yes, I figure there's hope till he meets his end. And he doesn't run away quite as quickly now as he did at first when I come up to the porch (or out my front door), so that's progress.

And doesn't he know it. I remain amazed that anyone abandoned him. Well, I'm always amazed and upset that people abandon pets.

I'm glad he zeroed in on me as the hand that would feed him. Now if I could get him to stop biting it.

Awww! That's it! Poor Dean is so skittish. I think he kind of HAS been in a hell.

I'm going to buy him a cat-cave.

He kind of really is. And the two of them together are an awfully cute sight.
