It's uploading now

The giant podfic that ate my brain is uploading to a fileshare site right now. Holy mother of god what a project! My deadline is midnight. It's almost 11:00, and the upload client says the files will take another hour and six minutes to upload. Talk about cutting it close!

I ended up compromising quite a bit. There wasn't time, and I just don't have the expertise, to get the levels perfectly matched from one chapter to the next. There's some computer fan white noise. I'm not happy with every one of my readings of dialog. I couldn't edit out every mouth noise and every click. If I had it to do over again, I'd drink more water and do more voice exercises before sitting down to record.

But it's done and I'd give it a B, maybe a B-minus. It runs 8 hours, 27 minutes, and I had to cut it into four parts. Even so, it taxed my computer's 16 gigabytes of RAM. Audiofic is just...intensive.

It should be up on the podfic archive in the next week or two, at which time I can tell you all about it.

Now I want to start another one!

i wanted to let you know that i am almost done listening to the first part!

you sound fantastic! so clearly spoken! with no weird sounds and pauses that are just right - the sound and tone are really consistent and the podfic is just lovely to listen to.

i'm curious about the comm that you did this for. could you post a link to it?

Oh, thank you! I'm so glad you're listening and enjoying, and not finding anything major to put you off of the story. I had a lot of fun making it.

Yeah, it's amplificathon. The tag to follow is Podbang:2009.

They haven't started posting the entries yet--as I recall, it's a holiday thing, and I think everything's going up in the next week or so. (All I paid attention to was my deadline!)

Just FYI, I'm working on Restraint now.

When Heroes Go Down podfic = awesome
Hey, just wanted to let you know that I just finished your podfic of When Heroes Go Down, and I have to say, I think you're selling yourself short - it's really excellent. I've done some recording of podfic myself, and I was impressed with the evenness of your sound quality, the great voices, and the life that you brought to a VERY LONG podfic. It must have taken you forever. Izzie's and Dean's voices were particularly great. I give you full credit, at least an A-! Plus, I was thrilled to read that you are also a bike commuter in the NW who listens to podfic while commuting. I live in Seattle and have about an hour commute each way, and podfic provides the much needed incentive that gets me through the wet and cold and dark of the winters around here. I hope you're not too burned out by the experience, because I'd be happy to hear any other stuff you choose to podfic...thanks!

Re: When Heroes Go Down podfic = awesome
Oh my goodness! What wonderful feedback! Thank you so much--you've made my day. WHGD was only my second foray into podficcing, and I learned a lot technically--knowledge that I hope will be reflected in my next big project. But I loved every minute of doing it, and I find the whole process enormously rewarding and creative.

Let me shake the virtual hand of a fellow PNW bike commuter. Most of Seattle's a whole lot hillier than most of Portland and, if I'm not mistaken, even a fraction rainier (Hah! That's why they named the mountain that!), and an hour each way in some of our PNW days can be occasionally trying.

But isn't it great? To be out in it? And to realize how really beautiful most days, and many parts of our cities, really are?

Re: When Heroes Go Down podfic = awesome
Being outside for at least a portion of the day keeps me sane, I'm convinced. And really, it's not that bad most of the time, not too cold or icy. The sunrises and sunsets make it worth it. But I have to say that I am ridiculously grateful that it's not pouring rain like almost every day last week! That got way old. I do get some flack from loved ones for the one earbud commuting, but podfic isn't usually that loud, so I think it is safe enough. Thanks for friending me, right back atcha!
