The bread update

Oh yeah. Ken's Artisan Bakery is it. I might as well plan never to buy bread anywhere else, ever again.

First of all: nice place! Not pretentious. Not in the Pearl District. A bit funky, on a noisy corner of semi-dumpy NW 21st Avenue. Friendly guy behind the counter. Chatted happily about bread and levain and their informative website.

I got all the way home--two buses--before indulging in my purchases. The small country loaf is gorgeous. It's crusty and toothy and tastes like wheat and life. And butter. I added a lot of butter and went to heaven.

And then there was the Valrhona and Grand Marnier chocolate tart. Because the bread and butter wasn't paradisiacal enough. And tomorrow for breakfast? A croissant. And homemade lime marmalade.

Oh yeah. This is the stuff.

Ohhh, see? I wasn't jealous at all until you said that. I can't find a good croissant around here to save my life. Which is probably a good thing, because I'd eat them non-stop.

Enjoy!

If I'm ever in the neighborhood, I'm paying that bakery a visit.
