Things I did this weekend

My dry spell on Restraint (the Regency J2 AU) has come to an end in the last couple of days. This weekend I've written most of the bridge section whose absence was preventing any further progress. I feel like I can finally write through to the end now. OMG this has been a long haul. Started that sucker more than a year ago, and have been stuck for the last three months.

It feels wonderful to have found my feet again on this novel. I've never discovered anything more fun than writing fresh new story--new snarky dialog, new minor plot twists, new character reveals. I LOVE THIS STUFF!

In other fannish activity, I just finished recording the eleventh of the twelve chapters of my Podbang entry. Many hours of editing lie before me. Many, many, many hours of editing. But the recording is almost done.

And I posted one of my very few fics to the A-Triple-Oh! Archive. PEOPLE WHO ARE IN THE OPEN BETA: Do you post locked or unlocked, and why?

Oh, and I just started watching "White Collar". Wow. Fun AND slashable. I like.

And finally, I took 25 night photos this evening and only one was any good.

That's it exactly: a high. Great, great feeling.

Huh. It's funny--I feel differently about AO3 than about my journals. It's got more in common with Fanfiction.net in a way, and seems less personal, somehow. So I can understand the emotional logic of flocking on Dreamwidth and leaving stories open on AO3.

I'm not even sure what I'm locking FOR anymore...

Bounce! I am so glad to this!

Re AOcube: I have an account, haven't started posting yet, but my online policy is never lock anything, the people who DON'T want to see locked things have a nasty habit of finding a way to unlock them, so I just don't post anything that I don't want The World to be able to see.

Oh! You mean the troublemaker sort who want to find evidence of evil nasty pr0n?

Hm... good point, if that was your point.

Ooops, I meant to say "the people ONE DOESN'T want to see things tend to find ways of seeing them." So if you're afraid that your boss or your mother-in-law or your pastor is going to find something...well, they probably will, and a lock isn't necessarily going to prevent things falling, by bad luck or malice, where you don't want them to go.

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought you meant. Nosy parkers with a grudge and a moderate set of internet skills can certainly dig up dirt on me whether I flock my naughty fic or not. Very true.

I trust, mostly, in my general uninterestingness.

Glad to hear the writing is moving again!

I didn't even know you could post locked on AO3. Learn something new, etc etc.
Nov. 23rd, 2009 07:06 pm (UTC)
Yes, there's an option to lock posts for members only. It's ANY member of AO3, rather than a designated social network of "friends," but I suppose it would keep one's mother/spouse/enemy from casually encountering one's fic. If, you know, that were one's goal.

I think anyone can read fic on A-Triple-O, and that fic will get spidered by search engines, etc., if it's not locked. But I'm guessing at this point.

It's the editing that's the killer, isn't it? And 12 chapters? Wow! I thought I was good :P

The editing certainly takes the time and fortitude!

On the other hand, I can edit in a far more comfortable setting than my sound booth. So that's a help.
