Show, Show, Show

Oh, SHOW. You are getting really, really harsh and good. I made a new icon for the occasion, because that? Was utterly cool.

Dean and Cas: that was some kind of commitment ceremony/sacrificial sex right there. First Cas writes on Dean's bones, then Bobby shouts "Enough foreplay!" and then there's a passionate declaration of doing it all for you, Dean, and then an exchange of jewelry. It was awesome.

I can see the Dean/Ellen without even squinting. Because Ellen? Whoa. Hot.

Not that SPN is famous for mind-boggling originality or anything, but tonight? Lord of the Rings AND His Dark Materials?

I love that the amulet is finally coming into its own. Nice piece of long-term continuity, Show.

Interesting that we see proof of Dean's rib-writing, but not Sam's. Interesting that Castiel now has to carry a cellphone to reach the boys.

The First Horseman was a little too much like the Trickster for my taste.

I can't even begin to imagine Dean a) letting Sam leave and b) offering him the Impala.

I was sad at the end. Weren't you?

Dean/Ellen really needs to be written. *nods* absolutely!

What kind of calling plans do you think angels can get? Do they have to pay roaming fees? :)

I was shocked Dean was okay with the idea of Sam leaving, but in a way offering the Impala was saying what he couldn't- he still loved his little brother and wanted to keep him safe.

When Castiel starts using credit card scams to pay his cellular bill, the difference between Angels and Dean will be completely obliterated!

but in a way offering the Impala was saying what he couldn't- he still loved his little brother and wanted to keep him safe.

Alternatively, it supports owzers's and my theory from last week that everything so far this season is Sam's I Am Really Lucifer Now hallucination. *clings to odd theory*

The x-ray of the sigils on Dean's ribcage was pretty cool, and a nice way for the writers to remind a lazy viewer like myself about what happened last week.

I definitely appreciated the part where Dean offered the Impala. I actually had to rewind to make sure I'd heard correctly. It was a small moment that carried a lot of punch... which is one of the things that I like about this show. It's developed the two main characters so well that they don't have to speak a lot to say a lot.

Which doesn't mean that Sam doesn't talk about his feelings an awful lot. :)

Sam is definitely emo-boy. But Dean's the one who cries the best. But you're right: SHOW has given us two great characters, extremely well-drawn (by a really remarkable writer/actor convergence), and they don't need to say much anymore.

hee! i've been seeing everywhere that the jewelry exchange = going steady/commitment ceremony/angel married/etc.

i really love the amulet being given meaning. iirc, kripke did say he had plans for it. i wonder if this is what he planned all along? i guess we'll probably never know.

in sparky77's lj, someone posted about how the ribs are all wrong. i think there are not enough ribs? or too many? and they are all the same size, which would be impossible and the way they show up is just not the way they would in a real life xray. but honestly? I DON'T CARE! lol! i loved it! and i LOVE your new icon!

i was sad at the end too :(

I stared and stared at the rib x-ray and thought, yeah, that doesn't look right. But then I just supposed that they got a real chest x-ray and manipped it. It seems like it would be so much easier than faking a source X-ray.

Well, Dean and Cas definitely have something going, and for Dean to give Cas the symbol of Sam's love for him--it's like re-using your old wedding ring for your second marriage. Really odd.

Dean gave Castiel the amulet really reluctantly so I'm still carrying the Dean/Sam torch... despite the ending, which I spent thinking, 'Noooo!'

Ellen? Rocks. For Jo, hunting with her mom must be weird. But I guess Dean and John hunted together for long enough, so I shouldn't criticise.

The x-ray was cool. Bobby was cool. Sam really looked like he was in need of a meeting in that convenience store, to my mind.

WTF with the ending, in fairness? I now can't wait for next week which hopefully will fix it.

The flatbread line cracked me up. I loved the Dean/Cas debate, especially the part about Dean stowing his opinions. You can stay what you like about Castiel, but he takes no crap.

Occurs to me that this is the Fourth Leaving o' Dean. Sam left to go to college, left during Scarecrow to look for John, left to go (inadvertently) raise Lucifer, and now he's left to stay away from his vice. Obviously I don't know how this most recent leave-taking is going to work out, but none of the other departures worked out all that well...

Ooh, you're right about the breakups. I mean, the leave-takings. There's the other side to it, too--Dean telling him "You walk out that door, don't you ever come back," which he said at the end of S4, and again (a version of it) at the end of 5.01 (I can't trust you...)

I'm rewatching the last three eps of S4 and the first two of S5 today to try and make some sense of it all, maybe find a pattern that I can work with, and I have this terrible feeling that Kripke and Co may not be all that clear themselves.

I'm sure part of my problem is just retention. So many details, so impossible to tell which are worth remembering!
