Thank you, Mr Burglar

The guy who stole my old computer yesterday did me a favor: he nudged me off dead-center in my obsessive indecisiveness about buying a new one. I just ordered myself a Dell Studio laptop.

I was thinking about the emerald. I bought it ages ago, in my bead-and-gemstone days, with some thought of designing a ring around it, but I never felt I could stretch to that extravagance, and so the emerald has always been kind of an albatross. By storing it inside the box where I keep my loose change by the front door, I was, I suppose, trying to usher it out the door. Now it's gone.

As I learned last year during Project Empty, it's amazing what comes in to fill the empty spaces. Now that the little green emblem of my entire online life has been removed, I'm wondering if I should change my online identity.

Hee! "No-EmeraldSedai". "DarkButNotEmerald".

What do you think?

Heh. I KNEW this was coming, this philosophical take on what would, to most people, be a rather traumatic event. I can always count on you to find something deeper, more meaningful, and very, very wise.

And YAY NEW COMPUTER OMG YES. You must share the specs, because you know how much I live for such things, and allow me to squee on your behalf.

::pets the pretty specs...but not in a pervy fashion...okay, maybe a little bit...::

I had to chuckle at the LoJack because obviously. :) And WOW on the 8 GB!!! You REALLY splurged. What a sexy, sexy machine this little beastie is going to be.

The standard on this model was 6GB of memory, so the upgrade to 8 wasn't a leap. I just eschewed the fancy multi-colored case, and it was a wash.

It's here! After telling me that It Could Not Be Done, FedEx brought it to my office this morning. I haven't done more than lift it reverently out of its box, but wow! It's big, it's beautiful, and it looks a great deal like yours--even to the separate number pad and the fingerprint reader.

I am SO putting a BluRay disc of some sort into my Netflix queue to find out what that's all about. Ooh. Just put Harry Potter OoTP in there. They charge EXTRA for BluRay. That sucks. Oh well.

LOL! That's hilarious! She'll never know the difference! She is a female: greedy, vain, and stupid. Silence her nagging with a fake.

The stolen emerald was what they called a "doublet," I think, in the trade: a decent but not deeply colored natural emerald with a thin layer of lab-grown emerald with really good color bonded to its top surface, then cut. So it had the characteristic flaws of a natural emerald and the color of a really, really rare one.

I'm sure that's deeply symbolic. Maybe I should be glad it's gone!

I'll follow you anywhere, whatever you call yourself Blondie/Em/FKA...

Aww! Thanks!

FKAEmerald. I can't decide whether that looks more like Fake Emerald or the other thing.

EEE! A new name, what fun to imagine and invent! Miss Emeralds past....

This is very exciting. As you know, It's not unheard of for me to change my name. I think LJ still has a service where you can change the name of your whole journal. I'll have to look into that.

Reinventing self. What fun.

But I'm glad you've taken this in stride.

*big hugs*

Well, thank you! That's very, very good to hear.

You are so nice! Your new name should be "Ooooo! Thank you!" by those same standards. Or "crack dealer". Either one.

I'm looking forward to my new computer. Oh, and the nice police man just came by and showed me a picture of the guy who stole my stuff. So the fingerprinting was worth their time. I'm supposed to call 911 if I see him. I wouldn't wish jail on anyone, but a whole lotta people in the 12-Step movement say that a stern judge and a conviction were the beginning of their turnaround.

Now I'm singing L-O-L-A Loh-oh-la...:D
