Visitor Kitty

For a couple of months now, I've had a visitor kitty. He jumps up onto the flower box outside my living room window, and because he is all dark gray, like a shadow, I don't always see him sitting there staring in at me. It can be rather startling when I finally notice it.

There's no evidence that he's hungry. He's honkin' huge. But I put some bits of people food out for him the first time anyway, because he was acting hungry and had a chunk of his very long fur sticking out at the neck like he'd been fighting.

After a few visits, he'd stay on the porch and not run off when I came out the door. Then he started running up to the porch from across the street when I came home from work.

He's wandered into the house--and quickly back out again--a couple of times when I've left the door open.

I tried to pet him and he scratched shit out of my finger. Last night he was doing some caterwauling somewhere outside my house at around 2:00 in the morning, suggesting that a) whoever is feeding him regularly isn't keeping him in at night and b) he probably isn't neutered.

Not sure what to do next. Probably buy cat food.

Me too! Visitor Kitty is the best way to go. An Occasional Cat.

Visitor pet is often the best kind! My Dad has an entire neighborhood of them that come and visit, he gives them food, milk, what ever. They enjoy their visit and then go home. Maybe that's the best pet for now. Is it Monsoon'ish? Perhaps an offspring? Giving it some dry food now and then is a sure way to have him return now and then. Nice that he comes to welcome you home!

Yeah, he's kind of a Monsoon lookalike. Very handsome fellow. Mean, too. I like that in a cat.

I had a cat when I was a child and he was a bit overweight. he went through a phase of turning his nose up a certain brands of cat food and I worried about him. One night he didn't come for dinner at all and I went to all the neighbours to see if they knew where he was. They didn't but they did know him. 'Oh, he belongs to you, does he? I thought he was a stray and he seemed hungry, so I've been feeding him.' Times six...

(He was fine BTW - he turned up for his nightly cuddle, not at all hungry, so he obviously roamed even further afield for meals than I managed to get.)

Well, it's pretty hard to keep a roaming cat from roaming, I guess, and this one clearly isn't neglected in the most obvious senses of the word. It's funny, though, how domestic animals can pick and sort of manipulate humans.

I'm such a gullible mark.

Hee! That reminds me of a dog my Dad had as a neighbor. She would take a morning and evening stroll through the neighborhood and every house she visited she got food leftovers. She got so fat she couldn't get through the small opening of the fence from my Dad's place to the next door neighbors house. The owners couldn't figure out why she was getting so obese and had her on a strict diet! Of course, the stricter the diet the more she wandered to the neighboring houses. The owner had to go to every house int he area and ask them to stop feeding Sadie.

*eyeroll* What a shame the owner didn't actually care enough not to let the dog wander all over the place!

I have an idea that ViK gets fed like that, because he's certainly a hefty boy.

Aw, kitty. :-(

It's so tough to know with stray kitties. I'd be buying cat food too.

Yeah, I bought the cat food. It's actually a perfect arrangement for me. He drops by, sits on my window-sill and looks in, and eats some kibble. Then off he goes.
