Ice cream

I spent the better part of yesterday making Neapolitan ice cream in the form of a cake for a family birthday party.

My sis made the birthday cake in the form of the most decadent little mocha-frosted chocolate cupcakes.

All sugared out now.

Super simple--got it at a yard sale last summer for three bucks. Gelato Modo is the brand name, though it seems not to exist in internet universe. Hand-cranked, double-walled bucket with some kind of super-freeze stuff in the cavity between the walls. You just stick it in the freezer overnight to get it ready to use.

After the five dollar Krups espresso maker that I've been using for ten years, it was probably the best yard-sale purchase I ever made.

Sounds almost exactly like the type of one that I have.

Though the last time I made some ice cream it was at work so I ended up using a couple of stainless steel bowls, a large snow drift, and the fact that it was minus 20 outside at the time.

It was quicker than using the walkin freezer...
