Project Empty resumes

Project Empty is back.

avventura1234, who has experience with building demolition, emailed me the other day and said, "I need a project. Let's tear up your kitchen."

Just shelves with doors.

So we did. I emptied my wall cabinets and cleared the counters last night, and she came over today with her giant pry-bar, and we levered and pried and hammered and smashed, and down the cabinets came.

Then we ordered pizza.

We found nastiness behind the old cabinets, some of it almost certainly involving asbestos. We sealed it back in with a coat of plaster.

Then we went to IKEA and got new cabinets. So, not that much Empty-ness, but it's all in service of a space reallocation that really will improve my quality of life in the little house in Stumptown. avventura1234 just saw "Fight Club" for the first time last night, so she was calling me Ikea Boy.

The plan is to assemble the cabinets in the morning, paint the wall in the afternoon as soon as the plaster is dry, hang the cabinets in the evening, and get my espresso machine out of the bathroom ASAP.

Oh, this was just yesterday. The real non-paying busy-ness has been from the historFic. Of which a little demolition has cleared my mind wonderfully. I really needed a break from it.

It'll get wowier as soon as I recover from the loss of a whole hour in my day (damn daylight time) and get back to it.

They're forthcoming.

*is tired*

This losing an hour business just sucks, doesn't it?

Holy cow! How exciting!!

You have a friend who owns a giant pry-bar. That's AWESOME.

I've been slacking on my own Project; I shall try to take this as inspiration to keep moving!

It's better than that--avventure1234 is my sister!

My Project Empty came to a slow and grinding halt at about 80% of what I hoped to accomplish, and in the interim, any pockets of clutter remaining have formed little vortices (nexi? foci?) of re-accretion. So this inspiration to go through the crap in the kitchen and once again chuck a bunch of stuff out has been more than timely.
