This must be love

It came! It's here! It's my new Xperia X1 phone, and it's fabulous.

It's slim and cool-metal sleek, and satisfyingly heavy in the hand. The keyboard slides out in this sort of little curvy way. The display is sharp and bright and high-res, and the touch screen is incredibly sensitive and responsive. It has an FM radio--a feature I didn't care about till I tried it this morning on my way to work and realized that the radio owns way more music than I do.

I'm riding the bus and listening to KGON Classic Rock (aka Dean Winchester music) and reading my instructions and pressing buttons and just generally geeking out, and just as I get downtown and step out into the rain, KGON starts playing "Renegade" by Styx. I am not kidding.

(*sings* Oh, mama, I'm in fear for my life from the long arm of the law...)

My fellow Supernatural fans will appreciate how much this put a big shit-eating grin on my face.

So I pass a good-looking kid on the street who, though I can't hear him (because of the rather good in-ear earphones that came with the phone), makes it clear by sign language that he would like me to spare him some change.

In my mind, I'm all, well, I can't because I just spent a perfectly ridiculous sum of money on a new phone. And then I felt like crap and started blaming the world for being topsy turvy.

Which it is. But my new phone is making me kind of happy.

Wonderful toys for all good girls and boys... You deserve it regardless of the world situation. Enjoy!

Nice of you to say so. I don't know that I deserve it regardless of the world situation, but I seem to have it regardless of the world situation.

Your icon is hilarious!

Thanks! It's a salute to my favorite Christmas movie, A Christmas Story. I'm sure you recognized Ralphy after his "bad" word when he helped his father change the flat tire. I've got to get that on Netflix this week!

That's one of those movies that everyone's seen that I haven't seen. People have told me over and over again that it's a must-see and that I'd love it. I'll have to give it a try.

Oh yes, DO! It's such a charming, funny story and it takes me back to the early 50's in a flash. Very worth the rent.

Someone hit me up for some change when I was on the way home after buying my new phone. Must be some universal constant or something...

That's kind of eerie!

*snort* Totally!

Congratulations on the new phone. (I actually think it's groovy to spend a few dollars on something that one is going to use every day; it's spending money on stuff that either one never uses or that breaks almost immediately that is a waste.) I wish you health to use it.

Aaaaand now I've checked out your earlier link to the specs and pretty pictures, I'm totally super-envious!

Was it your birthday recently? I'm sorry to have missed it and I hope you had a good day.

It was a great birthday, thank you kindly, and the phone is terrific. I'm realizing that the brightness and sharpness of the display (they squeeze 384,000 very small pixels into a screen with a 3" diagonal measurement) is a whole lot of what makes the device so wonderful. Even my aging and often-bleary eyes can see stuff on it, and it's all colorful and sharp and vivid.

And you should see Sam and Dean on there. Tiny and fabulous!

I love that you refer to the lanky and resolutely manly Sam Winchester as "tiny and fabulous"! :)

In the palm of my hand! Tiny!

Though it's an extravagant buy, I do get a hell of a lot of use out of a phone, and I made my last one go for three years. My research was pretty damned obsessive careful both then and this time.

So yeah...groovy! Thanks!
