Miscellany because my cable's back

The world gets startlingly small when the whole of it is suddenly no longer available right behind this screen.

avventura1234 and barefoot_gen and I were sitting around talking and drinking tea last night, and at no fewer than six points in the conversation we wanted to look something up on the internet and couldn't. It felt very restraining.

Now that my cable has been restored (by a very nice guy from the neighborhood, in a truck clearly marked Comcast), I feel much more myself.

I'm off work today. I love taking Fridays off. I slept till 10:00, then spent a pleasant ten minutes on the phone with the bank that just bought my new mortgage, arranging for biweekly payments. Turns out that making just slightly more than half my monthly payment every two weeks will result in a reduction of three years and $22,000 in interest. Twenty-two thousand dollars. In interest.

Geez. No wonder the rich get richer.

So, feeling quite cheery, I hopped aboard the airport light rail and went to IKEA, where I bought two more drawers to fit into my new bedroom cabinet.

Cabinet with two drawers. By next payday, all eight will be in.

Your cable is restored and my phone line is dead again. Gotta be a conspiracy...

Hey you! Welcome back!

This place has many faults, but it's still a pretty good community. I'm so glad you're back.

Wow, that was lucky!

Project Empty has been a surprisingly profound process, so much more than just cleaning house. Thanks for reading.I've enjoyed spreading the word.

Wow, I didn't know your cable was out. It is amazing how dependent we are now on internet. I remember clearly in 1997 when Bob and I got our first home computer together and hooked to the internet. Neither one of us could imagine what we would need the connection for but access came with the computer. We quickly created email addresses and now we can't be without it for even a few hours. Same thing, we think of things to look up constantly. Instant knowledge. How great is that???

Your case in the bedroom is looking fabulous! I almost like it best with only some drawers and the rest open. But it isn't as functional without drawers. And they are pretty drawers, so what the heck...

I agree about the cabinet looking more elegant without drawers. But I'm keeping a lot of little doo-dads in there that need hiding. What's more, the thing is so low to the ground that I'll never reach the back of the shelves unless I can pull them out toward me!

The idea of being without the internet is a little like contemplating living alone on an island. ::shudder::
