Update on Owzers

This just in from owzers:

I only packed some clothes, grabbed some documents and toiletries and we took off. When we left, the fire was south of my house and the howlings winds were blowing south, so I was fairly sure my house would survive, but the winds keep shifting...We're not allowed to go back [home], so all I can do is call my house and feel relieved when my answering machine picks up - at least I know the house is still unburned at that. Pray for us sweetheart. This is a nightmare. With any luck, we'll be allowwed to return to our home in a couple of days.

I'm so glad to know she got out! and it sounds like all her household is with her. sending cooler-weather-and-calmer-winds mojo to all in SoCal!

Your mojo seems to be working. Latest reports are that the winds have finally begun to slow. Keep up the good work!

Hope they make it through this okay. Faced with possibly losing everything would be overwhelming and taxing. *sends positive thoughts*

Hundreds of thousands of people are in that position this week, and it seems to me that absolutely the only consolation would be the solidarity of community.

I'm concerned about this on so many levels! Not only the personal, but the political. I'm grateful on behalf of my friends that the response is so much better than it was for Katrina and New Orleans, but it's hard not to speculate about why that should be.

It's all very apocalyptic, isn't it?

Losing one's home and possessions has to be one of life's great shocks. I'm hopeful for owzers. The winds have died down and the firefighters are gaining a foothold in some areas.
