Reassembly

I can't decide whether the best invention ever right now is kneepads, utility knives, audiobooks or ibuprofen. All of these have played major roles in my life the last few days.

The bedroom is now fully primed, painted and wall-stenciled. As of an hour ago, the underlayment is in place--heat pads in the traffic areas, jigsawed in with plain padding, for a sort of duct-tape, blood, and gray-flannel patchwork quilt covering every inch of the floor.

DarkEm's right leg and foot, featuring a red knee-pad, as she sits exhausted on the newly installed gray underlayment in her empty room

Flooring and baseboards tomorrow. Window and door trim Monday. IKEA furniture order, delivery and assembly next week. Installation of light fixtures, outlets and ceiling fan next weekend.

The amount I'm looking forward to having a real bedroom again can be measured in giga-somethings. Maybe tera-somethings.

After that, I guess, I get to find out what's next in My Retired Life.

Well done! I hate crawling around on the floor so sympathise with you! Is that an effect of the light or can I see birch tree stencilling on the wall? Good luck with the IKEA assembly and installation next week.

Yes, life is going to seem unstructured and empty after all this fun, isn't it? Mind you, you'll also have to put up some window blinds...

That is indeed the birch stencil. I'm extremely pleased with it!

Floor work is awfully hard on the knees and hips (and the hands and wrists when getting up again) but it's been good for me to get down there.

Window treatments! Yes...I'm kind of putting that decision off. I simply couldn't visualize the right thing in the absence of context, so I hope a good idea will come to me as the room takes shape.

An example of irony?

That, or an example of coming full circle back to my starting point.

I'm really hoping for a return to normal by May Day.
