04/30 Raining, cats, and dogs

Ah, the winding-down time of year. I love the approach of autumn--even though the rainy season has made an early appearance here in Puddletown. Oh well. Time to get back in the habit of covering up my bike saddle. Ugh--white jeans + wet leather saddle = embarrassing stains.

Some miscellaneous day-brightening:

tiny white dog with a pink leash-handle, waiting alone on a bench outside Whole Foods near some pretty flowers
Dog parking at Whole Foods

All-black cat with pale eyes lounging on the patio
Meet Ivy, who has been hanging about lately. I think she has several homes, but I like to be a reliable source of food. Graydie puts up with her.

A smartphone mount on the handlebars of a bike, next to the cup-holder and the basket
Handlebar phone mount. One of my better recent acquisitions. Took me a few rides to learn to trust it but now I wouldn't be without it.

This world!! It's rushing right past me, with the phone holders on bikes and omgosh! Me, all crabby with my land-line, crouching over it and insisting it's all I need, when what I really mean is, it's all I understand!

For me the beauty of a smartphone is that it's barely a phone at all and I don't have to actually talk on it. But it shows me the way and reads me books and sings me songs and wakes me up and replaces my bookshelf and my stereo and my flashlight and my kitchen timer and my clock and my notebooks and my camera and my maps and my address book...

...and yeah, my landline.

I love living in the 21st century. :D :D

Oooo, Ivy is LOVELY! (And more than a bit like Fausta!)

Look at that! Very similar. Are Fausta's eyes almost white?

I've never had an all-black cat before (not that Ivy is precisely "mine," but you know what I mean)--this one is extremely lithe and long-bodied, fur rather wiry, and she has a very friendly personality. I wonder if there are breed characteristics.

Fausta has green-gold eyes. She is small, lithe and very friendly (and TALKATIVE!) She purrs like a motor very often, which is a lovely characteristic in a cat: scratch or pet her, PURRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

She's a beauty! I love how her nose and mouth disappear and it's just green eyes and pointy ears. What a lovely cat.

Heheh, I'd probably tie up the phone mount ( and the phone ) to the handlebar with a string or something for added security, I'd be so scared of my phone falling! But it looks good there :)

I'm not quite sure how I overcame the fear of my phone hitting the deck. I think I was endangering myself by holding onto it with one hand while riding, and had to stop. The mount is really reliable, though--I go over bumps and it holds tight.
