Diet Day 200

On the food front: The high protein and low carbohydrate approach is working well for me.

There's a lot of static on the line about Paleolithic blah-de-blah, and I have some logical issues with the idea of imagining how our ancient ancestors ate and trying to emulate it as cure-all for modern ills.

But. But I do find that cutting grains, starches and sugar back to almost nothing helps me. My appetite is sound and predictable, my energy runs along a fairly straight line all day, and it's easy for me to continue my weight-loss efforts. My metabolism seems to be edging up slightly, and I've lost two more pounds since last report.

On the clothes front: I spent all day yesterday in a pair of jeans that have never fit before. (I only kept them because they're so good looking.) Mind you, spandex is a wonderful ingredient.

There are only three or four more items in my closet from the old days: two more pairs of jeans in descending sizes, and the holy grail leather jacket. Most of my Shopping In My Closet clothes have served a short season before getting too large, and have now been cycled to the donation bag.

On the unanticipated front: I've got a whole (deep, philosophical) post's worth of thoughts about the unexpected downside of becoming not-fat-anymore, and I'll probably write it soon. But, in a nutshell, I'm realizing that this quest has been at the center of my life, all my life, and that I'd better start developing a new quest pretty soon.
