Mudroom, continued

My brother in law Ed is a damn good builder. He doesn't just slap stuff together. He's a total professional, and a craftsman, and he's been building and remodeling houses for so long that he sees a house project the way I see a sentence. He speaks the language of carpentry.

That's why my little mudroom project, though modest, is making me so happy: because everything that Ed has ever done on this house (complete reconstruction of the front porch, the famous bathroom, the roof and gutters) has made my tiny old house a better place to live.

Nice! I could use a hand like that around my place.

How many square feet is your humble abode?

Six-hundred or so. Six-thirty with a functioning mudroom-entrance.

The hand around the place, though perhaps going the extra mile for family, charges me the full rate--I would not like to give the impression that I'm freeloading off the B-I-L!

Heh. The thought of you freeloading never crossed my mind actually. It is hard to find a competent contracter and congrats on snagging one.

He just finished, cleaned up, and stopped in to calculate the final bill, which he told me was, in fact, at the "family discount," so I take that part back.

Still not cheap, but hey, good work on something as important as my house is worth paying for.

Wow, it's REALLY moving along! He doesn't waste time, does he? Are you all atwitter? I'm all atwitter and I'm just looking at the pictures. Tee hee!!

I don't suppose he's for hire by non-family members? Because we have these unfinished openings in the attic, you see, that need custom doors....

Oh, Ed is totally for hire. This is what he does for a living. He's very, very experienced with Craftsman style houses, too.

He's the best. (Fair warning: politically, he and I are quite far apart. The work is fantastic, but don't bring up the subject of taxes, if you know what I mean.)

I looked at those pics and I saw Ravensworth in its renovation process :))

Really? That's wonderful!

My whole house would fit in Ravensworth's stables, I'm pretty sure.
